Challenging the Church

Challenging the Church

Jesus clearly left the Church — His Body on earth — work to do until He comes back for us. How is the Church doing? What is it known for among the unbelievers around us? Is Jesus rejoicing in Heaven over the activity, the dedication of His people? Or does the Church need a wake-up call in these final days that we have left?

Englishman CT Studd, born to a life of wealth and privilege, spent his adult life in China and then Africa, serving the people God called him to and founding WEC International.

Memorable CT Studd quotes:

  • Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.
  • Some wish to live within the sound of church or chapel bell;
    I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.
  • If Jesus Christ be God and died for me,
    then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him.

We challenge every Christian to think deeply about your life.  Have you heard a call from God? Is what you do making a difference in eternal ways? Will you hear “Well done, good and faithful servant” when you see His face? We are not about guilting people, but we are about grace — His wonderful, matchless grace that lets us live free of fear, free of penalty, free of regret.

Join us in this wonderful adventure of a life lived in Christ and for His  glory. Ask the Lord today what He would have you do for Him. You’ll never — ever — regret saying ‘yes!’ to our wonderful Savior! One more quote from CT Studd:

“Christ wants not nibblers of the possible, but grabbers of the impossible
by faith in the omnipotence, fidelity, and wisdom of the Almighty Savior.”

Keith Green lived almost a century after CT Studd, but he had the same vision and a powerful message to challenge those of us who sit in church pews. Though Keith has gone to Glory, we pray his lyrics (below) move each one of us, not to useless guilt, but to vibrant involvement and fruitful activity. We believe this challenge to the church is even more critical in these last days.

Do you see, do you see all the people sinking down?
Don’t you care, don’t you care if they drown?
No one sheds even one tear, but He weeps
… all Heaven just weeps …
You close your eyes and pretend the job’s done;
like Jonah you run!  The world is asleep in
darkness you can’t even fight
… but you’re asleep in the Light!

In the June/July issue of ALERT, we share stories of people who keep listening for the Savior’s voice, who want to obey Him, and who reply: “Here I am, send me!”
