Days of Great Harvest

“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb” (Rev 7:9 NIV).

As the sun rises each day, it shines on great multitudes of people around the world who love and worship the Living God. Despite our sins and failings, our Lord is fulfilling His purposes on earth through His Church and especially through her prayers as she pleads, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.”

The Church is probably much bigger than we think. In the past fifty years, it has grown at a faster rate than any other religion. The faithful service of generations of missionaries, the daily witness of God’s people, and the prayers of the saints have brought forth a mighty global harvest of believers.

This momentum is not letting up. People are turning to Christ in unprecedented numbers, especially in Asia, Africa, and South America. Also, more Muslims have come to Christ in the past forty years than in the previous one thousand years. No surprise, then, that this coincides with the growing crescendo of global prayer for the Muslim world!

The Gospel has also taken root in hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people groups that were, until recently, unreached. In many cases, groups with no known believers ten or twenty years ago now have thriving churches among them.

Prayer movements too are springing up around the globe as intercessors fall to their knees pleading for repentance, revival and spiritual awakening. The Lord of the Harvest is sending workers to the harvest fields in great waves from nations that, not long ago, were themselves considered mission fields.

The Sovereign Lord is making righteousness and praise to spring up before all nations. He is purifying His Church that has allowed her garments to be stained by sin, and is making her into a spotless bride for His risen and exalted Son. As His bride puts on her garments of praise; she is ever looking upward, longing for the day when her beloved Bridegroom comes for her.

Every day bring us closer to His coming. And daily, peoples from all nations are becoming part of His Bride, each adding their own unique cultural style of worship to the great volume of praise rising to the Lamb upon the Throne.

Our response to all of this? Press on in prayer. The harvest is not yet fully in. Fields are ripe and ready for harvest but, in many places, the workers are still few. What else can we do? Simply bow in humble adoration and stand in reverent awe at all God is doing in these glorious days of harvest.
